A house fire on Wingfield Street in West Rome claimed the life of a 66-year old woman Friday evening.
According to Rome Fire Marshal Mary Catherine Chewning, firefighters were dispatched to the residence just after 8 p.m. and found the structure fully involved.
Neighbors told firefighters that 66-year old Margaret Maxon was still inside.
Firefighters were able to locate her, but unfortunately, she did not survive the fire.
An autopsy is pending.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears to be accidental.
The home was a total loss.
Chewning said this was the second fatal fire in West Rome in January.
The other occurred earlier this month on Norcross Way and claimed the life of 64-year old Bobby Lee Self.
