The Rome City Commission is set to vote on a change to the city charter that would increase the pay for city commissioners and members of the Rome City School Board when they meet Monday night.

If approved, the salary for city commissioners would go from $8,400 to $12,000 a year with the mayor’s salary remaining at 110% of the commissioner’s salary.

According to Rome City Clerk Joe Smith, if the amendment passes, it will not go into effect until after the next city commission election.

Also, the commission is expected to make appointments to the Historic Preservation Commission.

During the caucus, they will hear a presentation from Betsy Allgood, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity Coosa Valley.

The caucus will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 6:30 at Rome City Hall.
