The Floyd County Board of Education will hold the first of three public hearings regarding the millage rate during a called meeting Monday.
Although the rate will not be set until after all of the public hearings have been held, Floyd County School Superintendent Glenn White had previously announced that he would recommend lowering the millage rate from the current 17.95 to 17.70, making it the lowest millage rate since 2003.
However, recent property assessments went up.
When a millage rate stays the same or even goes down but the actual taxes a person pays will go up, local governments have to advertise that as a tax increase, and public hearings must be held.
The public hearing will be held at 7:30 a.m. at the central office on Riverside Parkway.
Following the public hearing, the school board will caucus at 8 a.m. and will include a Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education budget discussion.
Agenda items for the regular meeting include a facilities update, a discussion of lunch charge protocol, and the use of facilities policy.
The board is also expected to vote on personnel changes and the CTAE budget.
