The Floyd County Board of Commissioners will meet twice on Tuesday.
The first meeting will be at 8 a.m. and will be for the second public hearing regarding the millage rate for County maintenance and operations, fire, and solid waste.
During the last public hearing, County Manager Jamie McCord explained that although the millage rate will be lowered, it is still considered a tax increase.
“State law requires us to advertise if you don’t go full rollback rate and adjust the digest for the growth,” he said. “You can leave the millage rate the same but it brings in more money because property values went up. So, we are going to be somewhere between standard and full rollback. That is the only option we have on the table. We cannot raise it. We can only leave it the same or lower it.”
During the regular commission meeting at 6 p.m., the third and final public hearing will be held before commissioners vote to adopt a resolution setting the 2023 millage rate for the Floyd County Board of Education and Floyd County Government.
The commission is also expected to adopt a resolution requesting the Floyd County Board of Elections to call for a special purpose, local option sales tax referendum on November 7.
During the pre-meeting caucus at 3:30 p.m., the commission will hear a presentation regarding the fiscal year 2022 audit.
The meetings will all be held in the county administration building on East 4th Avenue.
