Floyd County Schools (FCS) Class of 2023 average ACT composite score was 21.6 compared to the national average of 19.5. FCS was also above the state, which recorded an average composite score of 21.3.
The class score increased by 1.2 points from the 20.4 composite average last year. For the ACT exam, students earn a score on a scale of 1 to 36. The average FCS scores by subject on the ACT used to calculate the overall composite average are English, 20.6; Math, 21.0; Reading, 22.6; Science, 21.9, all of which are significant gains from the previous year.
“I am very proud of the class of 2023, along with the hard-working teachers who worked to open up opportunities for them,” FCS Superintendent, Dr. Glenn White stated. “Our students and teachers are working hard each and every day and this is another testament to that.”
The ACT is taken in lieu of or along with the SAT, and the Class of 2023’s ACT scores follow outstanding SAT results released earlier this fall.
“As I’ve had the occasion to say often lately – I’m incredibly proud of the class of 2023,” StateSchool Superintendent Richard Woods said. “These students were high-school freshmen when the pandemic closed schools in 2020. Their education was severely impacted by the national crisis, but they have risen above and we’ve seen positive news regarding their SAT scores, graduation rate, and ACT scores in recent weeks. These results also bring positive news in the area of literacy, with Georgia students scoring higher in reading than any other subject area. We will continue working hard to ensure every student has access to a strong education that will open doors to a successful future.”
