The annual “Flipping for Youth” pancake breakfast is on Saturday, November 18 from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Rome Civic Center, according to Mike Elliott with the Rome Noon Optimist Club.
“We have got it set up, and we’re ready to go,” he said. “We’ve sold a lot of tickets and we hope to sell more.”
Tickets are $8 in advance and $9 at the door, The Optimist Club’s world-famous sausage is also on sale for $6 a pound.
As the name indicates, the money goes to support various programs for the youth in the community
“We have three areas that we kind of go to with as far as our funding,” said Scott Moody with the Optimist Club. We fund other organizations in Rome and Floyd County and help them reach the youth. We give grants to The Foundation Camp, Summit Quest, Cops for Kids, and other of the other ones if the summer reading program at the library.”
Other programs include the oratorical contest, an essay contest, a contest for the deaf and hard of hearing, the Terrific Kids program, and the student recognition program.
Advance tickets can be purchased at the Red Caboose at the civic center on Jackson Hill.
The Rome Noon Optimist Club is also celebrating its 75th year.
