Man accused of strangling woman

A 20-year-old East Rome man is facing charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment following his arrest Monday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Alijah Desean Thompson grabbed a woman by the throat and strangled her.

He also pinned the victim against the wall of the residence on North Broad Street, preventing her from leaving.

Man arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals

A Cave Spring man was arrested Monday on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated cruelty to animals.

According to the warrant:

Two dogs, a St. Bernard and a poodle mix, belonging to 43-year-old Anthony Dwayne Flowers were found extremely emaciated to the point where they struggled to walk.

One of the dogs could not even stand.

Both dogs suffered from extreme tremors, more than likely caused by the ingestion of insect bait or moldy food.

The dogs also suffered from intestinal parasites.

Inmate charged with battery, unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution

An inmate is facing charges following an incident Monday at the Floyd County Jail.

According to jail records:

34-year-old Rodney Ryan Devoe Mathis of Lindale punched the victim in the face, causing the victim to fall.

Mathis then struck the victim several more times, resulting in visible injuries to the main’s face.

Mathis, who was arrested in January on charges of failure to appear and is also being held for Polk County authorities, is charged with simple battery and unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution.
