It wasn’t that long ago that Floyd County was usually one of the last counties to report numbers of election night, but recently Floyd has been among the first.

According to Floyd County Elections Board Chair Jerry Lee, Floyd County was first to finish counting returns during the Presidential Primary in March and was only 12 seconds from being first during the May 21 primary and non-partisan election.

“I can’t say enough about the staff that we have onboard now,” he told the Floyd County Commission Tuesday. “They are doing an incredible job. I invite you to show up on election night and just watch as they do their job. It’s an incredible day every election day.”

Elections supervisor Akyn Beck recognized the work of one employee in particular, TeCorian Rowland.

“TeCorian came from a background of office management and customer service and has developed into one of the best elections technicians that I have had the pleasure to work with in my career,” Beck said. “She set the standard for customer service during her initial role as elections technician. Upon her promotion to lead elections technician, she held all of those she trained to the same standards. She successfully learned and took over the L&A [Location and Accuracy] process, as well as poll worker training. Ms. Rowland assists heavily in audits and makes it to where we can conduct 100 percent audits.”

The Floyd County Board of Elections and Registration certified the results of the May 21 election on Tuesday.
