Rome and Floyd County will celebrate the completion of a major section of the trail system on Tuesday.

A ribbon cutting for the Mt. Berry Trail and AdventHealth Redmond ECO Greenway signage will be held at 9:00 a.m. at the AdventHealth Stadium eastside parking lot trailhead.

“We haven’t had a ceremony yet, but our loop is complete,” Doss said during a recent Rome City Commission meeting. “When I say our trail loop, you can park at Mount Berry at the trailhead there behind the post office. You can park at Ridgeferry Park, or you can park downtown. The last little part was at the Armuchee Connector to connect the back of the trail, which is behind the Emperor’s stadium, and then the end of the Mount Barry portion.

The total length of the trail loop is around eight miles.

“I would just tell you to check it out,” Doss added. “It’s just a fantastic trail and there’s not a bad part to it and it’s a loop. It’s our first loop in the history of our city trail system.”

Rome and Floyd County have a long history of pedestrian trail development. The Robert F. Redden footbridge was Georgia’s first Rails to Trails project in 1976. Since then, miles of pedestrian trails have been added connecting major destinations within the community.
