Woman facing child cruelty charge

A 73-year-old West Rome woman has been jailed on a felony warrant charging her with 2nd-degree cruelty to children.

According to the warrant:

Janie Marie Beck allowed a child to be around a convicted sex offender who was also victimizing the child.

The victim told Beck several times about incidents of child molestation and sexual battery, but Beck still let the sex offender be around the child.

Beck even told the victim the perpetrator would not do it again, and that he needed to forgive the perpetrator.

Man charged with theft by receiving stolen property

A North Rome man was arrested during a traffic stop Wednesday on North Broad Street at Harvey Street.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

James Bertrume Jester was in possession of a 2008 Mazda 6, which he should have known had been stolen.

He was also driving with a learner’s license, and there was an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle.

Jester is charged with theft by receiving stolen property, DUI, violation of license class, and open container.

Man accused of fleeing from police at 100 miles per hour

A 60-year-old Silver Creek man was arrested for fleeing or attempting to elude at Highway 101 at Shiflett on Road Wednesday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Jeff Baldwin Harris traveling at 100 in a 55-mile-per-hour zone in medium to heavy traffic, passing other vehicles.

Baldwin’s vehicle crossed into a ditch when he turned onto Shiflett Road.

He is also charged with reckless driving, speeding, and failure to maintain a lane.

Woman facing drug charges, theft of services

A 38-year-old Silver Creek woman is accused of stealing water.

According to an arrest warrant:

Annie Rose Clement added a PVC pipe after the water was disconnected to the home on Donahoo Road, to obtain service without paying.

In addition to theft of services, Clement is charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.

Alabama woman arrested in plot to bring contraband into the Floyd County Prison in 2021

A Birmingham, Alabama woman is facing charges in Floyd County, including possession of items prohibited for inmates, use of a communications device to commit a felony, and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

According to jail records:

32-year-old Ikea Shanique Norwood conspired with an inmate over the phone lines at the Floyd County Prison, as well as through emails and video visitations, to smuggle more than 8 ounces of marijuana into the prison.

Norwood left the marijuana, plus cigarettes and rolling papers at the inmate’s assigned work detail location at Floyd County Public Animal Welfare Services on North Avenue in Rome.

The incident dates back to April 29, 2021.

Man charged with obstruction, sex offender registry violation

A Rome man is accused of hiding from Floyd County Deputies as they were attempting to arrest him on Wednesday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

44-year-old Christopher Dell Shadwick was apprehended in the area of Armuchee High School and North Floyd Park and charged with misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement.

Shadwick is also being held without bond on a felony warrant for violating Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry Law, and a probation violation.
