The Rome City Commission will discuss the elimination of variances from the 50-50 food-to-drink ratio when they meet Tuesday.
Currently, establishments that sell liquor by the drink must make half of their money from the sale of food unless a variance is granted.
If the commission goes along with the recommendation from the alcohol control commission, no future variances would be granted meaning establishments must use food sales to meet the ratio.
The establishments that currently have variances permitting the sale of other items instead of food to count toward the ratio would not be impacted.
The ACC is also recommending that food truck sales be eliminated from the food-to-drink ratio, meaning all food sales that would count toward the ratio must be on-site. Tuesday’s city commission meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room at city hall.
At 5 p.m. in the Sam King Room there will be a caucus presentation from Dr. John Barge, Head of School and Emily Matson, Director of Advancement at Unity Christian School School.
