WRGA Staff Reports –

The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a suspect has been apprehended after a high-speed pursuit.
Gordon Sheriff Mitch Ralston reported that at approximately 10:40 PM on January 12th, a deputy observed a Chevy Silverado speeding southbound on Belwood Road at more than 80 mph in a 35 mph zone.
When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver of the truck accelerated, initiating a high-speed chase.
The fleeing vehicle dangerously ran through two red lights as it continued on Belwood Road, evading law enforcement.
The chase proceeded onto State Route 53, where the suspect reached speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The driver recklessly passed other vehicles on curves and over double yellow lines, posing a significant danger to others on the roadway.
As the pursuit neared the intersection of State Route 53 and Yarborough Mill Road, deputies executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to bring the chase to an end. The suspect’s vehicle crashed as a result.
The driver, who was not named in the press release, sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital via ambulance.
No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
Upon release from the hospital, the driver will face multiple charges, including DUI, fleeing and eluding officers, reckless driving, and other violations.
