Deadly Summerville house fire under investigation

According to a report by WZQZ Radio, officials have identified the victim of a fatal house fire that broke out over the weekend on Turner Street in Summerville.

Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy McElhaney confirmed the victim as 44-year-old Misty Thompson.

The fire erupted early Sunday morning, sending thick smoke into the air that could be seen from over a mile away.

Fire crews from Summerville, Trion, and Hays Correctional responded to the scene before 10 AM.

Thompson’s body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Authorities have not yet released details on what started the fire.

Investigators from the Chattooga County Coroner’s Office, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the GBI are working to determine the cause.

More information is expected as the investigation continues.
