The Rome City Commission has voted to approve, with conditions, a rezoning request for a townhome development in West Rome.
The change from Community Commercial to Multifamily Residential at 2435 Shorter Avenue will allow for the construction of 30 townhomes.
A portion of the parcel would remain Community Commercial for a future restaurant.
The site plan showed ingress and egress through Westlyn Drive, which would have increased traffic on this street, as well as Coker Drive, as these will be the main routes to access Shorter Avenue.
However, Commissioner Randy Quick, as part of a motion to approve, added another condition stating that there would be no ingress and egress from Westlyn Drive.
“I don’t want to increase any more traffic,” he said.
The other conditions placed on the rezoning include:
(1) That the Planning Department must first approve the site plan for the development of the project prior to the issuance of a Development Permit or initiation of any land disturbance or construction activities
(2) That all parking/security lighting shall be shielded and designed to cast light downward and inward
(3) Light posts on private property shall not exceed 20’ in height
(4) Light poles and fixtures shall be compatible with the architecture of buildings on the property and with the streetscaping elements on adjacent property
(5) Buffers, setbacks, and landscape strip requirements must be met as noted in the Unified Land Development Code (ULDC)
The motion with the condition passed without any “no” votes.
