A married couple was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in North Rome on Saturday.
According to Rome Police:
At 11:45 a.m., officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of North Broad Street and North Avenue.
The initial investigation determined that a vehicle driven by Jennifer Leigh Pacholick, of Rome, sideswiped a vehicle driven by Ralph Tripp, of Calhoun, Georgia, before continuing northbound. Pacholick’s vehicle then struck the rear of another vehicle occupied by husband and wife Lamont Cornett, age 62, and Rhonda Cornett, age 60, both of Rome. Tragically, both Lamont and Rhonda Cornett were pronounced deceased as a result of the crash.
Charges are pending in this case and will be determined upon completion of the investigation.
The Rome Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the Cornett family and to all those impacted by this tragic incident.
The wreck occurred less than 14 hours after a fatal collision on Shorter Avenue involving a pedestrian.
At 10:04 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the intersection of Shorter Avenue and South Hughes Street.
60-year-old Sandra Hernandez sustained significant injuries and, despite immediate medical intervention, was later pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation determined that Hernandez entered the roadway from North Hughes Street and was struck by the vehicle.
Charges are not anticipated in that accident.
