WRGA Staff Reports –

This afternoon, the Rome Police Department confirmed that they responded to reports of shots fired in the area of the Boys and Girls Club on South Broad Street. As a precautionary measure, Anna K. Davie Elementary School was placed on lockdown.
The lockdown has since been lifted, and there is no active threat to the school or the surrounding area.
Investigators are currently searching for a suspect vehicle believed to be connected to the incident.
In a press release, the Rome Police Department thanked the community for its support and vigilance:
“Information shared by the public is often crucial in helping us identify and apprehend individuals who choose to endanger others — especially by acting recklessly in or around a school zone. Protecting our children and neighborhoods remains our highest priority, and we thank you for standing with us in that effort.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact 9-1-1. Callers may remain anonymous.
