The Rome City Commission has voted in favor of a resolution of support for the 2026 Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) application being filed by the Rome-Floyd County Land Bank Authority.
Prior to the vote, Rome Community Development Director Bekki Fox explained how the grant funds will be spent.
“The Rome-Floyd Land Bank Authority is applying for a Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) grant in the amount of around $1.4 or $1.5 million,” she said. “The money will be used to construct approximately six houses, and these will be within the City of Rome and out in the unincorporated area, because the land bank authority is a joint city-county public authority.”
The affordable single-family homes are for households earning at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income.
The commission also approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the city and the land bank authority.
“That is for clarification of the roles of the Community Development for grant administration,” Fox said. “The land bank authority administration falls under that department. So, it just kind of clarifies those roles.”
On Tuesday, the Floyd County Commission is also expected to approve a resolution supporting the land bank authority’s grant application.
