Assault suspect now charged with gang activity
Additional charges have been filed against a South Rome man originally arrested late last year for allegedly waving around an AK-variant rifle and threatening another man at the Callier Forest Apartments on Dodd Boulevard.
According to the warrants:
18-year-old Garyun Maleek Cole was an alleged member of “The Bloods” when he committed the crime on November 11.
He was originally charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, reckless conduct, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of drug-related objects.
He is now additionally charged with four counts of participation in criminal street gang activity.
Warrant: Man stole more than 29K in diamonds
A North Rome man is facing a felony theft by shoplifting charge following his arrest on Wednesday.
According to an arrest warrant:
57-year-old Rusty Tobey Strickland entered Diamond World in Mt. Berry Mall on January 6, and took a pair of diamond earrings, valued at $1,800, from the glass case, and stuffed them into his sweatshirt pocket.
He then took five diamond rings, valued at $28,000, from a display case and left the store.
Report: Woman admitted to flushing meth down a toilet
A Rome woman was arrested at her Copeland Street home on Wednesday on drug charges.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
38-year-old Tierra Jade Slocum was found in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, synthetic marijuana, pipes, grinders, and scales.
She also ran from the front door and flushed the meth down the toilet, which she admitted.
Slocum is charged with possession of meth, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug-related objects, and a felony count of tampering with evidence.
Man accused of stealing a U-Haul
A West Rome man, who has been charged with theft by conversion, is also facing a felony fugitive from justice charge.
According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:
41-year-old James Tavares Mims failed to return a vehicle valued at $48,000 after renting it from U-Haul on North Broad Street.
He also has a warrant for his arrest in Tennessee.
Mims remains in jail without bond and is being held for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
