Exterior renovations are underway at the historic courthouse downtown.
Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord recently gave an update.
“Midwest Maintenance, Inc. has been on site, and this is their second week,” he said. “They are working on cleaning and brick repointing. The projected completion date is April 2026.”
Repointing the brick involves removing deteriorated mortar joints and replacing them with fresh mortar to restore structural integrity, water resistance, and aesthetic appeal.
This is necessary when mortar is cracking, crumbling, or missing.
The historic courthouse renovation is a SPLOST project approved by voters in 2017 to address deferred maintenance and functionality.
Repairs will address concerns with safety and functionality, as well as retain its historical significance.
