Police responded to Superba Avenue in North Rome on Thursday evening after shots were fired into a home, striking a juvenile who was inside.
According to a Rome Police Department report:
Officers with the Rome-Floyd Task Force were nearby, executing a search warrant, when they heard about 30 shots.
The responding Rome Police officer was directed to the kitchen area of a home and began offering medical aid to a juvenile with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, while assuring the child that he was going to be okay.
The victim was then transported to the hospital for treatment.
Multiple shell casings of various calibers were located in the roadway near the intersection of Clervue Circle.
The officer also saw several bullet holes in the front, left side of the home.
One bullet had also traveled through the window next to the front door.
Video from nearby convenience stores showed an SUV leaving the area of North Avenue around the time of the shooting.
A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle matching the description, but it was determined that the driver was not involved.
Including the victim, there were four juveniles inside the home when the shooting occurred, all between the ages of 8 and 14.
No one else was injured, and the investigation is continuing.
