The Rome City Commission approved two annexations Monday.
500 Elliott Drive and 2705 Garden Lakes Boulevard are being annexed into the city at the request of the property owners.
“This applicant [500 Elliott Drive] put that they are looking for city services, specifically trash pickup,” said Rome-Floyd County Planning Director Brice Wood. “This is a very common answer.”
According to Rome City Commissioner Jim Bojo, garbage pickup was also the biggest issue for the Garden lakes Boulevard application.

“She called me and said ‘You never told me how many amenities the city offers that we could get,” he said. “The problem was, while her husband was alive, they were blocked. Then someone annexed, which opened the door for them. She is talking to her neighbors too, so we will see some more.”
Commission shows leniency toward business cited for selling alcohol to a minor
Also Monday, the commission considered a penalty recommendation for Party Time Beverages at 2792C Martha Berry Boulevard after the business was cited for an underage sale.
The Alcohol Control Commission recommended a $2,000 fine and a 30-day alcohol license suspension.
However, since the business has taken corrective action, including the installation of an ID scanner, the commission voted to impose no fine and no suspension.
