-Floyd County Schools News Release-
Floyd County Schools will receive $250,000 from the Safer Georgia Schools Grant, a grant to support the health and safety of students in Georgia through funding for programs and activities, equipment, and supplies to improve infrastructure, professional development, and personnel.
“I am thrilled that Floyd County Schools has been selected as the recipient of this grant,” stated Rick Flanigen, Chief Safety and Security Officer for Floyd County Schools. “These funds will be used to purchase items that will further improve the safety and security of our campuses.”
Around the Floyd County School system, the 2022-2023 school year saw multiple efforts to further improve safety and security in order to maintain safe learning environments for our students and educators. Examples of such efforts were increased security via additional school resource officers, increased safety drills including active shooter and school lockdown drills, increased random student and vehicle searches, and increased communication devices to county officials and 911.
While these efforts helped FCS increase our culture of robust security, we also know that there are other measures we could take to further ensure the safety of our students, educators, and community.
With this grant, FCS will focus on two major products: purchasing and installing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems for all 17 of our facilities and the purchasing and installation of fencing for our College and Career Academy. Both of these would provide an extra layer of security for our FCS students and staff.
