Woman accused of leaving children home alone
A Rome woman was arrested at her Lyons Drive residence on Tuesday and charged with two counts of 1st-degree cruelty to children.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
29-year-old Alyssa Marie Higginbotham left two children, ages 1 and 9, home alone.
The 1-year-old was running around the apartment complex, naked, while the 7-year-old was asleep in the apartment with the front door wide open.
Police also found high butane hash oil and a small amount of marijuana in the apartment.
Higginbotham is also charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
Man arrested after crashing into mailboxes, power pole in South Rome
A South Rome man is facing charges following a crash on Branham Avenue.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
A vehicle driven by 35-year-old Christopher D. Garrett struck a power pole and several mailboxes.
Garrett admitted to drinking, and an open bottle of tequila was located in the vehicle.
Garrett is charged with DUI, open container, reckless driving, duty upon striking a fixture, and failure to maintain a lane.
He is also charged with a felony count of false statements and writings.
