A commission meeting on Monday saw the Rome city commission discussing a tax increase as part of the required three public hearing meetings in order to justify a tax increase.
In the meeting, it was discussed that the mileage rate will not be increasing but altogether there will be a tax increase of 1.4% over last year’s tax rate.
During the meeting, City Manager Sammy Rich spoke on the changes to the mileage rate, of which the overall mileage rate has not changed from 26.25 mills. Rather, rates for different aspects of the city have been moved to where the city is expected to need them while keeping the same mileage rate.
