Report: Man tied kitten to bicycle
A homeless man was jailed Saturday on a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals.
According to Floyd County Jail records and a Rome Police Department report:
61-year-old Mike Wilson left a kitten out in the 90-degree heat with some kind of rope around its neck.
The kitten, which was tied to Wilson’s bicycle, was unable to breathe.
A bystander got some scissors, cut the rope, and then gave the kitten some water, possibly saving its life.
Woman accused of breaking into residence
A homeless woman is accused of entering a residence on Moore Street over the weekend.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
30-year-old Amber Marie Hovater kicked in the door of the structure, causing more than $1,000 in damage.
During her arrest, she was found with a smoking device containing a white residue.
Hovater is charged with 1st-degree burglary, 2nd-degree criminal damage to property, and possession of drug-related objects.
Report: Man hit two inmates at the jail
A Morrison Campground man is facing a felony count of unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution, battery, and simple battery following his arrest over the weekend.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
45-year-old Robert Clefton Duncan struck another arrestee in the ear, causing swelling and bleeding.
He then also struck a second man in the jail.
Duncan was initially arrested on charges of pedestrian under the influence, criminal trespass, and obstruction of officers.
Man charged with felony theft by taking
An arrest has been made in the theft of a generator and a chainsaw on Angel Road in Cave Spring that occurred nearly a year ago.
According to an arrest warrant:
33-year-old Jeremy Wayne McGatha of Centre, Alabama, took the Briggs and Stratton generator valued at $1,700 and the Dolmar chainsaw valued at $300 on July 21, 2024.
He is charged with felony theft by taking and a probation violation.
Man charged with entering an auto
The alleged theft of two dollars in change resulted in a felony charge for a West Rome man.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
58-year-old Eric L. Crawford entered a vehicle on Turner McCall Boulevard, taking the coins.
He is charged with entering an automobile as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of drug-related objects.
