(Via WZQZ) A Chattooga County Grand Jury returned a “true bill” of indictment against former Summerville Police Department employee Stacy Fountain. Fountain is accused of diverting funds from the Santa in Uniform Charity for personal use.
The GBI has been investigating the case for over two years. Back in 2017, Summerville Police Chief Stan Moseley told reporters, “We received some information that the account was short of funds so we looked into it and contacted the bank and found out there was some discrepancies in the bookkeeping so that’s when I contacted the GBI for them to take over the case.”
Stacy Fountain, an eighteen-year veteran of the Summerville Police Department, resigned in the wake of the missing funds investigation. She was in charge of the Santa in Uniform accounts, according to city officials.
The City of Summerville Mayor and Police Chief maintained that the charity, that provides Christmas gifts for children in need, was not an official part of city government. However, the funds for the organization were being handled by a city employee. It wasn’t until after the missing funds came to light that the city divested itself of all control of the charity and the charity set itself up as a non-profit charitable organization.
Fountain has hired a local attorney to represent her in the case.
