On Tuesday night a small crowd gathered downtown in the town green for a Candlelight Service in support of the National Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding.
The event was hosted by NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness), and featured key speaker Jennifer Ayers-Moore, Founder of the Ayers Foundation.
Jennifer Ayers-Moore is sister of Nathaniel Anthony Ayers whose life experience with mental illness inspired the box office hit film The Soloist.
As the Paper lanterns were lighted and lifted into the sky, The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain and Peer Counselor David Thornton prayed over the community.
