May 20, 2021–9:38 a.m.

First-time claims for unemployment insurance rose slightly in Floyd County in April.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, there were 1,595 initial claims last month, up from 1,557 in March.

However, we are way down from the 26,541 that were filed in April of 2020, when we were in the middle of the worst months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Rome area also gained 4,200 jobs from April of 2020 to April of 2021, according to the labor department.
