TRED Rome Floyd Inc. welcomes David Mathis to the Board of Directors. Events, fundraising, and community involvement at all levels offer just a sample of the skills that David brings to TRED. David recently retired after 30 years at Georgia Highlands College as the Director of Athletics and Kinesiology and Wellness Program Manager.
Mathis was the Tournament Director for the Georgia High School Association invitational, regional, and state basketball tournaments held at GHC each year.
Under Mathis’ leadership as Tournament Director, over $170,000 has been raised for non-traditional student scholarships.
Mathis was named GHC Alumni of the Year in 2012, Organization Advisor of the Year, and GHC Staff Community Involvement Award in 201.
He was also named Floyd County School’s Business Partner of the Year in 2005 and the 2012 Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority Horace Anthony Volunteer of the Year Award.
In 2014 he was awarded the Georgia Highlands College President’s Meritorious Service Award.
In 2019 he was inducted into the Rome-Floyd County Sports Hall of Fame and was named a Heart of the Community Award Recipient.
David serves as Chairman of the Rome-Floyd County Litter and Blight Task Force and the Rome-Floyd Land Bank Authority.
Mathis is married and has three grown children.
