Report: Man put woman in a chokehold

A Marietta man was booked into the Floyd County Jail Tuesday on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated assault.

According to the warrant:

29-year-old Durante Jamal Shoemake put a woman in a chokehold back in October 2019 at a location on Calhoun Road in Rome.

He then dragged the victim and would not let her go until he heard that the police had been called.

Shoemake also struck the victim in the stomach several times and took her cell phone.

He is additionally charged with simple battery, criminal trespass, and theft by taking.

Man facing child cruelty charge

A 33-year-old Rome man found himself in trouble after he intervened in an altercation between his younger sister and a minor.

According to the arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

Stephen Clifford Bell grabbed the victim and swept his legs from under him, causing the victim to fall to the ground and hit his head.

The incident occurred back on Jan. 28 at a location on Big Indian Trail.

Bell is charged with 1st-degree cruelty to children and battery.

Man accused of making threats, violating TPO

A 41-year-old Rome man is facing charges of terroristic threats and acts, simple assault, simple battery, and aggravated stalking in connection with incidents dating back to last year.

According to the arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

Gary Dawayne Ingram threw sockets at one of the victims, striking the man in the face.

He also threatened to hurt the victim back on August 5 while a protection order was in place.

Ingram also sent text messages to the victim, despite the protective order, and tried to make contact through a third party.
