Man charged with aggravated assault

A 32-year-old Silver Creek man was arrested Tuesday after cutting another man with a knife during a fight on Dodd Boulevard.

According to Floyd County Jail records and a Rome Police report:

Herbert Sebastian Shiflett pulled out a pocket knife and started swinging it around, cutting the victim on the left side of the chest, under the arm.

Shiflett also reportedly struck the victim’s wife as she was trying to break up the fight.

Shiflett is charged with aggravated assault, simple battery, and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

Report: Woman tried to cut another with a knife

A 28-year-old Rome woman was arrested at her Church Street residence on a felony count of aggravated assault.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Jaya Jabre Garrett tried to cut another person with a knife.

Man charged in Nov. 23 assault

A Cedartown man was booked into the Floyd County Jail Tuesday on felony warrants charging him with aggravated assault and aggravated battery

According to the warrants:

37-year-old Jason Lee Timms knocked a woman to the ground with such force that it broke the victim’s collarbone.

Timms also held the woman to the ground and strangled her.

He then fled the area as he was being questioned by law enforcement, resulting in an additional charge of obstruction of officers.

The incidents occurred on Nov. 23 at a motel on Martha Berry Boulevard.

Six arrested on heroin trafficking charges on Tolbert Street

Six people were arrested at a home on Tolbert Street on drug trafficking charges Tuesday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

During a follow-up investigation, probable cause was established for a search warrant due to drugs being in plain sight.

More than four grams of heroin were found along with methamphetamine, marijuana, glass pipes, and two bottles of Gabapentin.

Those arrested were:

35-year-old Brittany Gail Carnes, 31-year-old Antavious Taemon Gibson, 35-year-old Christina Katherine Yates, 36-year-old Laderrico La-Dale Heath, 26-year-old Amber Nicola Brannon, and 31-year-old Victoria Paige Ledford, all of Rome.

Woman facing sexual battery charge

A Cartersville woman is facing a felony charge in Floyd County following an incident that occurred in April of last year at an apartment on Baby Doe Drive in Rome.

According to the arrest warrant:

32-year-old Candice Shepherd Bearden put her hands under the female victim’s clothes.

Bearden is charged with sexual battery against someone under the age of 16.

Report: Firearm stolen during burglary

A Rome teen has been charged in connection with a second burglary.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

17-year-old Joseph Lee Mize entered a residence on Birchfield Drive on Sept. 1 and stole a 40 caliber Smith and Wesson firearm.

Mize is charged with burglary, theft by taking, criminal trespass, and possession of a handgun by someone under the age of 18.

Mize was initially arrested earlier this week in connection with the burglary of a business on Berry Highway.

He and two others were confronted by the business owner, who had a gun, and fled before police arrived.
