Storm cleanup continues, power outages remain Saturday morning

Cleanup continued on Saturday morning from the storm that rolled through the area on Friday, bringing heavy rain and wind gusts of close to 60 mph.

Meanwhile, 2,246 Georgia Power customers remained without power as of 9:30 a.m. According to the Georgia Power Outage Map, the estimated restoration time is 4 p.m. Saturday. Some of the largest outages are in the area of East Hermitage Road, and along Horseleg Creek Road.

Model Elementary sustained damage when an awning was blown from the building.

Berry College and Shorter College also had trees down .

According to Floyd County E-911, dispatchers fielded 545 calls from 1:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That’s compared to 159 on Thursday. There were 26 wrecks on Friday and 65 instances of trees or power lines down on houses in Floyd County. Dispatchers also answered 60 calls regarding trees in the road and traffic lights being out lights out.
