Man charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation

The Floyd County Police Department has busted yet another man after he showed up to meet with someone he believed to be a minor for sex.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

40-year old Jeffrey Charles Garrett of Rome initially made contact with the person online and then engaged in graphic sexual conversations before sending a lewd video of himself.

Garrett is charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation, obscene internet contact with a child, use of a computer to entice a child, electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor, and driving without insurance.

Former Floyd County prison inmate facing charges

A Birmingham, Alabama man is facing multiple charges in Floyd County.

According to warrants and other reports at the jail:

51-year-old Terry Sherar Carton, while an inmate at the Floyd County Prison, conspired with three other inmates and one person on the outside to smuggle 32 grams of methamphetamine, and 257 grams of marijuana into the prison.

Security camera footage showed the driver of a white sedan placing a bag into a garbage can in front of the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center. The contraband drop was arranged using the phone system at the prison.

Carton is charged with conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act, possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, possession of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of items prohibited for inmates.

Teens charged after fight at Pepperell High School

Two teenagers are facing charges following a fight in the agriculture classroom at Pepperell High School on Wednesday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

18-year-old Alex Clay Burnett of Lindale started the fight by throwing his toy car project.

19-year-old Dakota Jordan Blackwell of Silver Creek responded by punching Burnett.

Blackwell then took Burnett down and struck him multiple times.

Blackwell then went to his vehicle and left the school at a high rate of speed on wet roads.

He and Burnett are both charged with affray and disrupting a public school.

Blackwell is additionally charged with disorderly conduct.

Man charged with drug possession, battery, child cruelty

A 30-year-old West Rome man was arrested at his Lyons Drive apartment Wednesday on charges of simple battery, 3rd-degree cruelty to children, and possession of a controlled substance.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Andrew Nathaneil Nunez threw a woman to the ground in front of her children.

He was also found in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Man charged with felony obstruction

A Rome man is facing a felony count of obstruction of officers after he allegedly shoulder-shoved a deputy with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

According to jail records:

The deputy was at the Elm Street home of 38-year-old Kyle Thomas Stamey to serve an arrest warrant for contempt of superior court when the incident occurred.

Stamey is also accused of hiding and refusing to answer the door, resulting in a misdemeanor count of obstruction as well.
