A seventh person has been arrested as part of an investigation into criminal street gang activity in Rome and Floyd County.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
18-year-old Justin Mykail Beckworth of Rockmart was taken into custody Sunday in the woods off of Reservoir Street after jumping out of a car and running from police on Turner McCall Boulevard.
Beckworth and the others are members of the Real Northside Babies street gang, who appeared on police radar about six months ago following an armed assault that occurred at the A1 Food and Beverage.
Follow-up investigations uncovered drugs, guns, and money linked to a criminal enterprise by the group.
Information developed by the Floyd County Police Department revealed that the group was selling drugs and committing violent crimes all across the county.
The others who have been arrested and charged are:
- 19-year-old Charles Maddarius Lamar Adams
- 18-year-old Jakobie Jiquan Adams
- 19-year-old Caden Alexander Morang
- 18-year-old Corey Lashun Chatman Jr.
- 20-year-old Alexander Malachi Williams
Beckworth is accused of pointing a gun at another person’s head while demanding the victim’s money and cell phone during an armed robbery on Pine Street back on Oct. 15. He is also accused of participating in the beating of the man, who suffered several injuries to his face and head. The victim was not allowed to leave until the assault was over. Then, members of the gang took the victim home. The report states that Beckworth threatened to kill the man if he told anyone about the robbery.
Beckworth is charged with aggravated assault, robbery, participation in a criminal street gang, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, battery, obstruction of officers, possession of marijuana, possession of dangerous drugs, and possession of drug-related objects.
