Man accused of abandoning dogs without food, water

A 20-year-old Rome man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated cruelty to animals.

According to the warrant:

Contraveon Bernard Robinson failed to provide a dog with adequate food and water to the point where the animal suffered severe disfigurement to its bones and major organs.

Robinson is also accused of obtaining funds from the dog’s owner that were meant to purchase food, but kept the money instead of buying dog food.

He then moved to Kentucky.

Robinson is also charged with theft by conversion and animal abandonment.

Woman arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of items prohibited for inmates

A Newman woman is accused of conspiring with two inmates to smuggle contraband into the Floyd County Prison.

According to Floyd County jail records:

The inmates gave instructions to 34-year-old Tamara Sabrina Mitchell during a video visit at the prison on May 7.

Mitchell then left a grey bag containing two packages of marijuana, weighing more than 30 grams, at Rome City Public Works.

During a search at the back gate of the public works property, prison staff found the bag.

Mitchell was also charged with the use of a communications facility to commit a crime involving drugs and possession of marijuana.

Man charged with auto theft

A 54-year-old Rome man is accused of stealing a 2014 Nissan Altima from a location on Craton Road in Silver Creek.

According to the arrest warrant:

Louis Wayne Loveless took the vehicle on May 11 while the owner was incarcerated in the Floyd County Jail.

Loveless is charged with theft by taking a motor vehicle.

He is also charged with misdemeanor theft by taking for stealing the key fob, valued at $150.

Traffic stop leads to meth arrest

A traffic stop on Martha Berry Highway near Berry College ended with the arrest of two Rome men on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

57-year-old Brian Keith Compton and 22-year-old Cory Robert Shelp Jr. were charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects after a bag of suspected methamphetamine was thrown out of the passenger side window and a search of the vehicle turned up a glass pipe with suspected meth residue.

Compton was additionally charged with speeding, reckless driving, and open container.

Shelp is also facing a parole violation.
