Calhoun man arrested after fatal hit-and-run on Sunday

On Sunday (9/17/23) at 2:03 p.m., Georgia State Patrol Troopers responded to a hit-and-run crash with multiple injuries on GA 61 (US 411) within the city limits of Fairmount.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on GA 61 at a high rate of speed and struck 3 motorcycles in the rear that were riding together.

One of the motorcycles became embedded in the front of the truck. The driver of the F-150 failed to stop and continued north on GA 61 with the motorcycle still embedded in the front of the truck.

A witness followed the driver of the F-150 until Fairmount Police were able to get the truck stopped approximately 6 miles north of the crash scene.

GA 61 (US 411) was shut down until 4:42 p.m. The initial crash scene was approximately 1000 feet long.

Three motorcycle riders were flown to different trauma centers by Life Force. Two were transported by ambulance. One of the motorcycle riders died as a result of this crash.

The driver of the Ford F-150, 73-year-old Ronald Grady Dickson of Calhoun, was charged with DUI, Homicide by Vehicle 1st Degree, Felony Hit & Run X3, Serious Injury by Vehicle X4, Reckless Driving, Following too Closely X3, Failure to Maintain Lane.
