John Boyd has been appointed the new director of the Rome Water and Sewer Division.

Boyd succeeds Mike Hackett, who left in October after accepting a job in Okaloosa County, Florida.

Boyd has been assistant director of the department for a number of years.

After going through the selection process, I have determined that there is no one better to lead our department into the future than John Boyd,” said Rome City Manager Sammy Rich. “He needs no introduction to our community. John has over 30 years of experience in the field, the last eight as our assistant director.”

“We do have some challenging times ahead of us as it relates to water quality, compliance, regulations and growth,” Boyd said. “Growth is a good problem but it is a problem. As a good team, we will be successful.”

Among Boyd’s tasks as director in the months to come will be the construction of a new reverse osmosis water treatment facility, which is being paid for with proceeds from a settlement in a lawsuit filed by the city against carpet manufacturers, chemical companies and others regarding PFAS in the local water supply.
