Dennis Noles
Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dennis Noles was recognized during Tuesday’s Floyd County Commission meeting for going above and beyond the call of duty while responding to a recent emergency call.
On April 29, Deputy Noles had just ended his shift, but responded to a call regarding a shooting on North Avery Road in the Coosa area.
Being the first on the scene, Deputy Noles noticed a female lying on the ground, in severe pain and agony,” said Russ Taylor with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. “Three males were there with the female, one or two of them looked to be helping the victim, while the third was standing next to her with his arms crossed, with a look of shock on his face. Noles began to administer first aid to the victim by applying gauze and pressure to her stomach area, where the entry wound was.”
Noles assessed the gunshot entry and exit wounds, packed both wounds with gauze, and applied direct pressure to slow the bleeding while awaiting the arrival of EMS.
“I would like to acknowledge Deputy Knowles and commend his professionalism and unwavering dedication to the badge,” Taylor said. “Noles demonstrated swift action to the preservation of human life, but also with a heightened awareness while putting himself in harm’s way during what could’ve been an extremely dangerous scene. His courage, compassion, and conduct during the situation reflect on his training and experience through his last eleven years at the sheriff’s office.”
Police later determined that the man, who was standing in the residence with his arms crossed, was the shooter, and he was taken into custody.
