Man charged with aggravated battery in fight on Broad Street
A Cedartown man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated battery in connection to an incident on May 10 in the 400 block of Broad Street in Rome.
According to the warrant:
26-year-old Zachary Cole Williams punched a man in the face while the victim was not looking and was unable to defend himself.
The victim was knocked unconscious and fell to the pavement, where he struck the back of his head, sustaining a serious injury, specifically an inter-cranial brain bleed, which resulted in him being admitted to the hospital in intensive care.
Man charged with exploitation of the elderly or disabled
A Lyerly man is accused of taking advantage of a Rome man with cancer.
According to the arrest warrant:
30-year-old Holland Tyler Bishop took, wrote, and cashed checks belonging to the victim in April of 2024.
The victim was living with stage 4 cancer and was on a fixed-income of $1,300 a month, according to the warrant.
Bishop is charged with exploitation of an elderly or disabled adult.
Bicyclist facing drug charges
A man on a bicycle was arrested on drug charges in North Rome.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
39-year-old Robert William Hastings of Rome was stopped by police at Calhoun Avenue and Church Street for riding his bike on the sidewalk.
He was then found with suspected methamphetamine and bags.
Hastings is charged with possession of meth, possession of drug-related objects and vehicle entering the roadway.
Man on bicle arrested, found with marijuana at jail
A South Rome man is facing a felony charge after he was found with contraband at the Floyd County Jail.
According to jail records:
40-year-old Roshard Tirrel Johnson was initially stopped by police for riding his bicycle while under the influence and on the wrong side of the road in the area of Branham Avenue and Porter Street.
He fled from the stop and ran a stop sign before being apprehended.
Johnson then brought a small amount of marijuana across the guard line at the jail.
He is charged with possession of items prohibited for inmates, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, obstruction of law enforcement, DUI, failure to maintain a lane, a stop sign violation, and a probation violation.
